One of the biggest stories of SuperBowl Randy Moss gave us when he proclaimed himself to be the greatest receiver in football history. However, the receiver from San Francisco 49ers was largely missing once the game rolled.

During the 34-31 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday Night, Moss caught only two passes and was targeted a total of five times by the quarterback, Colin Kaepernick.
His disappearing act, though, didn’t go unnoticed. Lambasted back in San Francisco, a pair of former 49ers labeled him with the fearsome “alligator arms” charge on the set of a postgame show.

Clark and Romanoswki were making a referral to a play in the second quarter, when Kaepernick threw the first interception in 49er Super Bowl history. He sailed the ball over Moss’s head directly into Ed Reed’s arms of Raven. Now it’s up to debate to whether Moss would’ve been able to catch or somehow deflect the pass, however, his performance for the rest of the night didn’t give him the benefit of doubt when it came to this issue or anything else for the matter.

Jerry Rice Talks About Randy Moss

Filed under: Randy Moss - 01 Feb 2013  | Spread the word !

[Facebook] [Twitter]

Jerry Rice, who still has the the 49ers’ undefeated Super Bowl record, responded to Randy Moss, emphasising that the current 49ers receiver lacks the statistics, the Super Bowl rings and the work ethic to lay claim as the best of all time. Rice explained: “I think Randy Moss was the most talented. But along with being the most talented, you have to work hard — every season, every play. I was not the most talented, but I was going to outwork you. He probably could have been the greatest player ever to play the game.”

Rice said this as a response to Moss’ assertion that he was the greatest receiver of all-time and it seems that he had fun with his apparent demotion. Rice’s tone was calm, playful, but there were also some serious things. He added: “Moss could have been, probably, the greatest player ever to play the game. Gifted. 6-foot-5. Could run a 4.3. Could out-jump you. Struck fear in the opponent. But you have to have it here, in your heart.”

Rice is known for his work ethic, training and dedication to his career. Related to his past performances, he added: “This is how I impacted the game: with Super Bowl rings. I’m hoping he can go out there and win his first one and be a big factor.”

Jerry Rice also mentioned: “You put my numbers up against Randy’s and my body of work compared to his, and there’s a big difference. I know he says you can’t bring the stats into the scenario, but I think that’s part of being the best receiver to play the game.” Rice is famous for winning two Super Bowls with with Joe Montana and one with Steve Young.

The Beginnings of Randy Moss

[Facebook] [Twitter]

Randy Moss is an American former football player, born on February 13, 1977, in Rand, West Virginia. He grew up there, but he had to attend the classes of DuPont High in Belle, because his hometown was to small to have the need of their own high school. He started to play basketball, football and baseball, but there was no doubt that he was more talented at football. Randy was instantly noticed by scouts after he led the DuPont’s team to back-to-back state championships two years in a row.

He was also given the title of West Virginia Player of the Year in football and basketball too. In 1995 he was named in the All-American high school football team, by the Parade Magazine. Often called by his coaches the best high school football player they had ever seen, Randy had to think about what he was going to do after high school. Many players reach their maximum potential in high school and then they quit playing. Moss had other things in mind though. He decided to go to Notre Dame College, because he said that his dream was to play for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Unfortunately, he was involved in a racial fight, so the university denied his application.

The Notre Dame board suggested Florida State as a possible option for him. There, he played for the Seminoles in the 1995 season. He did not manage to stay there because he tested positive for marijuana and thus he was dismissed. Finally, Randy transferred to Marshall University, where he set new records in most of his games: most games with a touchdown catch in a season (14), most consecutive games with a touchdown catch (13), most touchdown passes caught in a season (28), and most receiving yards gained by a freshman in a season (1709 on 78 catches), record which still stands today.

These records made him one of America’s all-star football player, and although Randy Moss has now retired, he is considered a legend, a true star whose records still stand today. A multi-talented, but controversial sportsman, Randy Moss has now settled down and he has become a family man. He has four children with his girlfriend, a former basketball player, and even if they are not married they are considered one of the most beautiful couples that the sports industry has created.

Randy Moss – A Controversial Figure

[Facebook] [Twitter]

Randy Moss has been a very talented player throughout his football career. However, that doesn’t mean that his career has been free of problems. On the contrary, Moss has encountered more than an average amount of controversy. His first brush with controversy took place all the way back in 1997. This first big controversy occurred when he made a disparaging remark in Sports Illustrated about the Marshall plane crash that took place in 1970.

His next brush with controversy took place in 2002. This occurred when a police officer stopped him from making an illegal turn. Not only was he arrested for knocking down this police officer with his car, but a search of his vehicle also turned up marijuana. This was far from being his first issue with marijuana. In 1996, he tested positive for marijuana while he was serving a month-long jail sentence. Then in 2001, he failed a NFL drug test as a result of marijuana. He would later go on to cause more problems for himself when he openly discussed his marijuana use during the course of an interview.

In 2004, critics lashed out at Moss for leaving the field during the last seconds of a game. Two years later, he was once again criticized for appearing to put less effort than he possessed into his play on the field. The same criticism arose again in 2007, as well is in 2009.

Over the course of his career, he has also had an incident with unsportsmanlike conduct, as well as allegations of physically injuring a woman that he was dating.

Randy Moss Stats

[Facebook] [Twitter]

Randy Moss will be, in the 2010 season, a twelve year veteran of the game of football. In many people’s opinions, even those who don’t cheer for the team he plays on, there hasn’t been a better wide receiver in recent history. Moss has been a shining star since he started playing for Minnesota Vikings in 1998 and has taken the game to a whole new level in his department. At 6’4″ and 210 lbs, Randy Moss is a force to be reckoned with that can take off and be past the defense before they even know the ball has been snapped.

In 2009 alone he was able to receive eighty three passes for a total of 1,264 yards. That’s an accomplishment that anyone could be proud of. And with only two fumbles (one turnover), it’s not impossible to see why so many teams have been clamoring in line to add him to their roster. In the previous twelve years, Randy Moss has spent the majority of his career with the Vikings, but was traded to the Oakland Raiders in 2005. He played for two years there and then moved on to the New England Patriots in 2007 where he just completed his third year and, in 2007, helped the Patriots achieve a Superbowl win.

However, to assume that Randy Moss can only catch (and run like the wind) would be foolish. In fact, over the years he has not only accumulated yards from passes, but he’s ran through defensive lines and even thrown over them and has even returned kick-offs (some for touchdowns). Through the years he has proven that, as legendary quarterback Brett Favre once said, “There is no one in this league who puts fear in people more than Randy Moss”.
